Opportunities don’t come to those who hide. Make your presence felt, get out there and network, use social media proactively, and be visible!
There’s no crime (or violation of workplace rules or etiquette) in having a full, current LinkedIn profile with fresh content each week. It’s not a job search site. No one will fire you for a consistent, positive presence on Twitter or Facebook. Everyone is on social media. Attending industry networking events is also risk-free. It can be a plus for your organization if you make connections that benefit you in your current position.
Getting social online and in-person is something everyone with ambitions to get ahead (or stay employed) should do. In today’s business world, no job is ever completely secure. If you KNOW your job is vulnerable, it’s especially important to become active and visible so you are prepared if and when the axe falls.
So, to get exposure to new opportunities, get exposure as often as you can by being present and consistent on social media and present and helpful in-person at networking events!
