Risk Of Being Laid Off? “I’ve Heard Rumours That My Employer is Downsizing!”

July 31, 2020 by Downsize with Dignity Leave a Comment

“What Do I Do?”

Today’s topic is “I have a feeling that my employer is in downsizing mode. What should I do?”

I am Martin Buckland and I help senior executives across the world, reach their career goals.

Here are my tips on what to do.

If you think you’re being downsized…get busy. Befriend everybody. Take on extra work. Make sure you’re a valuable asset because when they come to making that decision about downsizing, because of your extra workload, you become a valuable asset. They might not want to downsize you because you are a financial asset. And if you can do extra jobs and you can save them money, then they might not downsize you.

However, you need to prepare. It’s time to look out for Number One.  You are in charge of your career.

I want you to be furious in getting on LinkedIn, getting on Facebook, and preparing or updating your resume or your CV.  Make it ATS friendly and think about where you would like to go? Who are the employers where I would like to work. Plan and execute a job search.

Here is a tip.  Did you have an appraisal last year? And was it wonderful? If so, use that appraisal in your resume and your LinkedIn profile, because you want to make yourself shine. You want to be number one when people are thinking about hiring.

So, If there are rumors about downsizing, if you are in career transition, or want to manage your career, I’m here to help. My name is Martin Buckland. I am an executive career management practitioner. I can help you manage and advance your career.
