Many job seekers shift their job search into low gear (or even neutral) during December, reasoning that hiring influencers are slowed down by time away from work and distracted by the holidays. While it’s true that many recruiters, HR professionals, and other hiring influencers are taking vacation time, it’s equally true that many thousands of job seekers are making the mistake of taking a break during this season.
Why is putting your job search on pause a mistake?
January is the biggest hiring month of the year. That means those hiring influencers are taking family time, but when they’re back at work, they’re hustling to fill those positions coming open in January! Those hiring influencers are looking toward the finish line, ready to make decisions, and are racing full speed ahead to place the right candidates into the winner’s circle at the beginning of the new year.
The competition is scarce. With so many candidates choosing to sit back and idle through the holidays and wait until January to rev up their search, there are fewer candidates competing for that finish line. You have a better chance of standing out as a winning candidate!
So don’t shift your job search into neutral this December. Use those holiday parties as networking events, get the word out that you’re moving full speed ahead to find that great new job, and blow past your competition to the finish line in January!
