What To Do When You’re Laid Off.

What to Do When You're Laid Off: I was Terminated Yesterday - HELP!

Today’s topic is, “I was terminated yesterday. I don’t know what to do. Help!”.

The answer is, take a rest, take a break and don’t burn your bridges.

First, go and start talking to people because you need to get rid of any anger or rage that you might feel. After that, go and see an employment lawyer. You need to go and review your severance package. Then you need to get your LinkedIn profile, your resume or your CV, up-to-date, performance driven, ATS friendly, and you need to plan an aggressive job search. There are plenty of candidates, plenty of talent out there and you are in a competition. You want to be number one.

So there you have it. Now, you know what to do. My final tip is that often when you get a severance package your employer expects you to go back for more. It’s the first offer.  Attempt to get a second offer. You have nothing to lose. When you do back for a second offer you might consider getting an employment lawyer to facilitate that for you.

If you want to manage your career or you are in career transition, I will be happy to help. Visit me on LinkedIn or go to my website, www.aneliteresume.com.
